The younger children at Oakley are grouped into classes according to their individual needs, with a curriculum that is adapted to enable a personalised approach to teaching and learning. We take care to ensure that the children are placed in a peer group with a similar developmental stage and level of ability. Their social skills are also taken into account so that they develop strong friendships in a happy, positive environment.
We follow a Creative Curriculum with a carefully planned umbrella theme as a foundation for subject teaching to be built around, with clear links made between them. This supports children’s learning in that it helps them to make connections which reinforce and help them to retain their learning.
There are currently 6 classes on the Tonbridge site: Elephants for Reception or Early Years children then the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children are divided between Lions, Hippos, Giraffes, Bears and Zebras.
