Students in Further Education (F.E.), Years 12 and 13, are taught on site for a minimum of 3 days per week in our Further Education Centre. The remaining 2 days are split between off site activities of which one day per week is allocated to work experience or development of work skills.
F.E. has its own separate and distinctive work, study rooms and reception area where students can relax at lunch time and during break. They also spend time away from school in the local community, at local colleges of further education, and take part in community projects and work experience. To help develop financial literacy and to subsidise activities all students are involved in Team Enterprise projects.
Students are allocated to tutorial groups of around ten students and individual tutorials are arranged weekly. The Further Education Department offers a range of pre-vocational, vocational and leisure courses in addition to providing opportunities to the further development of core skills. The programme varies, as it adapts to meet individual needs, capabilities and interests. Examples of visits have included Bowles Residential, the local Hospice, KCC Youth Special Needs Day and more!!
Students achieve a range of accreditation including ASDAN modules from Towards Independence, Life Skills Challenge, Short Courses, Employability, Diploma in Life Skills, CoPE and Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award Units.
In the past three years our F.E. students have also had the opportunity to join The Shakespeare’s Festival for Schools and performed a Shakespeare play to a live audience of several hundred people.
