The children joining us in Key Stage 2 learn best through ‘active learning’ and ‘real ‘experiences both within the school environment and ‘Learning Outside the Classroom’. We provide a varied curriculum for these children, which allows them to learn through Teacher Directed, Teacher Initiated and Child Initiated learning opportunities.
We invite all parents to attend an assembly performed by their child’s class during the year, so that parents have the opportunity to learn about the work their child is doing in school. This also means that parents can meet informally afterwards, over a cup of tea or coffee.
We concentrate on working in different ways using whole class teaching, small group, paired and individual approaches. We carefully adapt our teaching so that pupils can access the curriculum and have developed a range of techniques and strategies to ensure this. Many of our teachers and learning support assistants are trained in a highly specialised approach to the teaching of pupils with autism and social communication difficulties.
