Key Stage 4 Ski Trip to Pila - Feb/Mar 2018

"What a fantastic launch of the Oakley Skiing Trip. So proud of everyone and their amazing determination, perseverance, courage and attitude during the entire trip. The majority of pupils made it up to the red runs of the Pila slopes and showed not only physical strength but how mentally strong they are. Even when tired and sore they always gave 100%. This trip has demonstrated that our pupils are polite, friendly and supportive young people. They integrated incredibly well with the students from Ifield school, who joined us on the trip, and the feedback from everyone we crossed paths with; ski instructors, reps, coach drivers and the hotel staff was incredibly positive and reflected the good manners and likability of our pupils".  Sally Maher, Teacher & Trip Co-ordinator

A very successful penultimate day in Italy. Today, 5 of our students; Ocean, Ollie, Alanah, Ayman and Ryan conquered several blue runs up on Mount Grimod, progressing into parallel turns and weaving in and out of the trees on the aptly named ‘Narnia’ run. All demonstrated incredible control and vigour. Ellie, Hannah, Zoe and Hollie remained on Baby Gorraz and perfected their wide turns growing in confidence and stamina. Oakley stars of the day today were the wonderful Hannah and Ollie and our skier of the week was the amazing Mr Hoon for his charisma, style and courage both on and off the slopes!

"Great day today! Initially, we could barely see a thing as we were in the middle of an epic snow blizzard! However, the students continued to impress us with their positive attitudes and sheer determination. We took on the chair lift with stunning views of the mountain and all of us made it down Baby Gorraz.

This evening’s aprés ski was bowling - plenty of strikes, spares and smiles for team Oakley!

Stars of the day today were Ryan (for being an absolute gentleman) and Zoe (for being extremely resilient and positive)."

"Despite being very tired from last night’s disco dancing (and facing temperatures of -10), pupils gave 100% on the slopes and made AMAZING progress. In fact, so much progress was made that tomorrow, most pupils will be taking the next step and riding the chair lift to a more advanced slope: Baby Gorraz. Our aprés ski activity was tubing today followed by a classic Oakley snowball fight. Early to bed for us ahead of tomorrow’s exciting escapades!  Our stars of the day today were Ellie and Ayman."

"What an amazing day. Everyone processed to baby Pila and using the conveyor belt up the mountain. Most students were able to go down independently. Disco night this evening was fantastic. Oakley and Ifield filled the dance floor with some energetic and creative moves and lots of new friendships formed".

Monday, 26th February 2018

"We had the most amazing first day. In the morning the weather was foggy and -11c but by the afternoon the sun had appeared to warm us up.

We met our instructors - Vaughn and Connor, who will be with us for the week and Jenny our Interski representative. The students were amazing and embraced the slopes learning to snow plough, parallel ski and start turning. Star of the day was Hollie for showing the greatest performance progress and determination. Pizza night was a real treat with an endless supply (14 consumed in total) followed by ice cream. Everyone is still tired from the journey so an early night full of happiness."

Sunday, 25th February 2018 - our Skiers have arrived safely in Pila, Italy.
