Welcome to Oakley School

Oakley School

Oakley School is co-educational and has places for up to 160 day pupils & students, aged 5 – 19 years and all children have a Statement of Special Educational Needs.

In January 2006, when Oakley School was re-designated a District Special School for Tunbridge Wells by the Local Education Authority, planning was underway to enable us to take a wider range of children with profound, severe and complex needs, with the whole school on the Tunbridge Wells' site. In December 2008, however, all special school building work by the LEA was halted due to the economic climate and Oakley School is unable to take children with profound needs until new building work can be completed.

Our school is currently located on 2 sites, seven miles apart. The Primary department is at Waveney Road, Tonbridge and the Secondary department and Post 16 are located at Pembury Road, Tunbridge Wells.  The whole school is led by the Principal, Martin Absolom, and he is assisted by Primary Head of Education, Karen Marsh and Secondary Head of Education, Gordon Tillman, together with Assistant Headteacher, Mark Boorman and Post 16 Leader, Peggy Denman (both based on the Secondary Site).

Currently, our pupils and students come from a wide area centred upon Tunbridge Wells. In future they will increasingly be taken from the Tunbridge Wells area alone. Most arrive by minibus or taxi but, where appropriate, pupils are taught to travel independently.
