Primary Early Years contains two classes. Bumble Bee Class includes reception age children where they start their first year of school attending full time. Caterpillar Class includes year 1 and year 2 children still following the Early Years curriculum.
At Oakley we aim to build a strong partnership with parents. For the new reception children we carry out home visits where the children are observed in a familiar and comfortable environment - it is also a time for parents to share any questions or queries they may have before their child starts school. In both Caterpillar and Bumble Bee classes, we hold ‘stay and play’ sessions throughout the year so that parents can come and see their children in their classroom environment, usually for one afternoon. The children will bring home weekly newsletters, which inform parents of what their child has learnt over the week and includes photographs, key dates and information. Most of the children travel to and from school via Kent Transport so it is important for parents to know they can also communicate with staff at any time through the yellow contact books, phone calls, and meetings.
