Welcome

We hope you enjoy reading the following pages as an introduction to Oakley School.

As you may already know, we are the district co-educational, Special School for day pupils, aged from 2 to 18 years, all of whom have severe and/or complex needs, with associated communication and learning difficulties.

I have had the privilege of being the Headteacher at Oakley School since November 2012 and am proud to be part of the fantastic staff team who work so very hard to make learning motivating, interactive, challenging and fun, whilst ensuring that all our children and young people feel safe, valued and self confident. We promote skills for life and independence so that when they leave Oakley School, our young people have the best opportunities for a long and fulfilling life.

We offer a rich curriculum - as well as teaching all the core subjects; maths, English, Science plus ICT, Art and others, we promote practical learning in subjects such as Life Skills, Food Technology and Learning Outside the Classroom which includes Horticulture and Construction. We also offer a vast array of enrichment activities and trips.

We were last inspected by Ofsted in March 2015 and judged as GOOD in all areas (having been judged as ‘requires improvement’ in March 2013). We were delighted with this result but continue to work hard to achieve outstanding, a standard that all of our children and young people deserve.

Our children and young people are at the heart of everything we do. We know that they learn best when they feel safe, valued and self-confident, and our team works with parents, therapists, other professionals and external organisations to ensure that is the case. But don’t take my word for it, please come and visit us (by appointment please), see for yourself, speak with staff and pupils, have a look around, only that way will you get a ‘feel’ for our very special school. In the meantime, please browse through our website to find out more about us.

We look forward to meeting you.
