  • Oakley Nursery celebrates its first year, with a trip to the Farm!

    Fri 29 Jun 2018

To celebrate the first year of Oakley Nursery, our specialist nursery team ran two very successful trips to Blackberry Farm, where the children enjoyed a tractor ride, looked at farm animals, held a rabbit and guinea pig and played on their playground equipment.

Thank you so much to all the staff at Blackberry Farm, for making our children so welcome.

  • European success!

    Mon 25 Jun 2018

Congratulations to Jack, ex-student and current Midday Meals Supervisor and Tim, current FE student, who are on their way home from Barcelona, having represented England, playing hockey as part of ‘Flyerz’ a hockey team run especially for children and young adults with SEN. Flyerz took two teams to Barcelona, they played six games and won 3. Out of 19 teams they came 3rd, winning a medal each and a trophy for the team.  We look forward to hearing more about it upon their return to school.

  • Oakley's Eco Committee helping the local environment

    Mon 18 Jun 2018

On the morning of Monday, 18th June the members of the Eco Committee went to Dunorlan Park to help the Friends of Dunorlan by planting some flowers, herbs and fruit and doing a litter pick around the grounds.

They spent a lovely couple of hours enjoying the park while at the same time searching out some well hidden rubbish and helping to keep the park clean and tidy for the many visitors it gets every week and helping with preparations for the Britain in Bloom judging later this month.

The committee are hoping that this is the first of many visits, especially as the park is so close to the school and somewhere we visit to support our curriculum.

  • Best Sports Day Ever!

    Mon 18 Jun 2018

On Friday, 15th June, Key Stage 2 and 5 children and young people from our Tonbridge site travelled to join pupils on the Tunbridge Wells site for what was hailed, by parents, as the 'best sports day ever'!

It really was a massive team effort, led by our PE teachers Sally and Kim who co-ordinated the whole day brilliantly.

We were lucky with the weather, with the sun shining down on us.  Parents, carers and families joined us, enjoying picnics and the treats on offer, including some lovely cake provided by the Friends of Oakley, while watching the children test their sporting prowess on the different activities available.

By far, the most popular race was the water race, which was less of a race and more of a water fight between the staff and pupils, with lots of gasps (the water was very cold) and squeals of delight, particularly from the parents watching from a safe distance (it was a good job most of the staff had the forethought to bring in spare clothes)!

Thank you to all our staff and families for supporting the event and our pupils, as always, for giving their all, helping each other, and just generally having a lot of fun.

Bodiam house won the most tokens on the day and took the trophy but there weren't any losers at Oakley Schools Sports Day this year.

  • Trip to Chessington

    Thu 14 Jun 2018

On Wednesday, 13th June 14 pupils from the Tunbridge Wells site went on a trip to Chessington World of Adventures.  The local Rotary Club fund the event every year and we are always delighted to be invited.

One or two pupils had been picked from each class, by their Class Team in recognition of their excellent progress, hard work and dedication made this year in school.

The sun shone and everyone had a brilliant day, the pupils were buzzing when they got back, talking about all the different rides they'd been on.

Thank you to the staff who went with them and thank you to the Rotary Club for such a fantastic day out and their continuing support.

  • It's a Knockout!

    Tue 12 Jun 2018

On Friday, 8th June a group of 6 students from Further Education took part in an It's a Knockout event, run by the Tonbridge Lions at the Angel Centre.

This is an annual event which involves different schools, adult and day care centres from the local area. They all get together and take part in team games.

It runs from 9.30am to 2.30pm, so a long day for our students.

They were all absolute stars. Lots of communication, listening to instructions and meeting up with old friends.

We came 4th out of 12 teams so a brilliant effort and lots of fun had by all.
