Music Therapy

Music therapy is based on building relationships between people through making music together. Through improvising, listening and responding, students can benefit from the opportunities for developing engagement, expression, interaction, organisation, freedom, confidence - and fun - that are all inherent in joint music making.

Lib, our Music Therapist works with students who have a wide range of needs, including:

  • speech, language, social and communication difficulties
  • emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • low confidence and poor self-esteem
  • a history of trauma or a bereavement
  • attention difficulties
  • on the autistic spectrum
  • learning difficulties
  • attachment difficulties

Reasons for referral for music therapy

  • Building confidence
  • Working on focus and concentration
  • Building relationships with others
  • Encouraging the use of their voice
  • Offering them a space where they can be away from the business of their classrooms.
