Our children and young people are at the heart of everything we do.
A very warm welcome to Oakley School. We are the district Special School for children and young people from 3 to 19 years with a wide range of special educational needs located in our Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge (post-16) sites
Our Mission: Children and Young People at the heart of all we do.
Our Ethos: Work Hard, Be Kind, Have Fun & Stay Safe
Our Vision: To give all our children and young people opportunities to engage, explore, discover and develop their independence – to become confident, resilient, happy and well prepared for a positive and meaningful future.
At Oakley School we are ambitious for our pupils and offer a rich Creative Curriculum that is personalised and offers learning in school as well as in the community. Our skilled and dedicated staff team work very hard to make learning motivating, interactive, challenging and fun, whilst ensuring that all our children and young people feel safe, valued and self-confident. We promote “Skills for Life and Independence” so that when pupil leave Oakley School they are prepared for the next phase in their lives and have the best opportunities.
Pupils' wellbeing and engagement is central to all our decision making and how we structure our school and the interventions we use.
Our Wider Curriculum offers excellent enrichment activities including: lunch and after school clubs, curriculum trips and residential experiences in the United Kingdom and abroad. These opportunities provide pupils time and experiences to develop their life skills in new places and with different people in preparation for their next steps.
We work collaboratively across our school community with our Families, Therapists, NHS Colleagues and other professionals and external organisations to support and meet the needs of our pupils.

Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
WOW what an amazing Christmas Fair at Oakley.
Our particular thanks go to all the companies who donated raffle prizes and the family and friends who supported us on the day. We were thrilled to be supported by Rapid Relief Team (RRT) who provided and cooked amazing food for us to enjoy.
We were delighted some of the Tunbridge Wells Borough Councillors and Kent County Councillors who joined us too - their support for Oakley is very appreciated.
Finally, thank you to the wonderful PTA - Friends of Oakley who made the Fair a huge success. 🎄🎄
On Friday 14 November, This Is Us visited Oakley for Children in Need Day, delivering an inspiring whole-school movement session across our Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells sites. Earlier, on Sunday 9 November, during the Strictly Come Dancing results show, Christopher from Phase 4 and his family shared their experience of life as a young person with SEN and the incredible work of This Is Us. We are immensely proud of Christopher and the This Is Us community for being recognised on national television.
Viewers were moved:
💬 “What a beautiful Children In Need segment on This Is Us and Christopher. His mum’s not the only one who’s welling up.” – Somersetlass
💬 “As a neurodivergent, I just wish I had the same support and understanding as this young man growing up. There are sometimes reasons to be happy about the future.” – LazyMillennial

On Monday 29th September, Sue, Forest School Leader was joined by some pupils and staff from Phases 3 & 4 to attend the Tunbridge Wells in Bloom ceremony at the Assembly Halls.
I am delighted to share that we had 9 poster competition winners and won Gold and Best School Garden...... for the fifth year.
We are delighted the judges recognised our Forest School as well as the many benefits for our school community. Thank you to all who support Forest School, but a particular thanks to Sue for her commitment and determination to ensure our pupils have such high quality outdoor learning opportunities.
On Thursday 4th September a group of students were delighted to collect our new minibus which was donated by Variety Golf and the Goodman Family. Sue, Len Goodman’s wife and his son James were so kind and made us feel very welcome in the Clubhouse while waiting for the presentation. The minibus gives opportunities for our young people to access their local community and participate in a range of activities including shopping, work experience and residentials. We are immensely grateful to Variety Golf and the Goodman Family for their kind donation.
On Wednesday 30th July we were visited by judges from the Royal Horticultural Society as part of Tunbridge Wells' entry into Britain in Bloom.
Three pupils, along with their families, helped Sue show them around the gardens and shared what they enjoyed most about gardening at Oakley.
The judges were very impressed with both the gardens and the knowledge and pride shown by the pupils during the visit.
Tunbridge Wells will find out how they've done at the end of October and Oakley are proud to have played a part in supporting their entry.

Yesterday we waved off a group of 10 pupils who are sailing around the Isle of Wight this week.
They have all adapted to the new surroundings, listened to safety the briefing, slept comfortably in their cabins and are enjoying the sunny views over the English Channel.
We are so proud to be able to offer this opportunity to our young people, with thanks to 3H Foundation for supporting with the trip.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who came to support the Tonbridge BIG DIG on Saturday 26th April.
Staff, friends and families spent the day digging, building and clearing the forest school area at our Tonbridge site in readiness for our young people to be able to use the area and enjoy learning outdoors.
Our lovely PTA kept everyone motivated with plenty of refreshments and ice lollies, thank you!
This afternoon a group of pupils from Kingfisher class along with two from Hawks travelled to the Southwood Road Rec in Rusthall. They were met by representatives from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council Parks Department, the Kent High Weald Partnership and Tunbridge Wells in Bloom. Together we planted 250 whips (small trees) in a number of different varieties.
Pupils had to dip the roots in a solution to help them grow, plant them in a small, pre dug hole then add a stake and a cardboard sleeve for protection.
Everyone worked in a team, helping each other and the adults and amazingly planted every single one in just over an hour.
It was a great afternoon and lovely to be able to be out in the community, working with different agencies but all focusing on improving the environment for everyone.
