Welcome to our School

Our children and young people are at the heart of everything we do.

A very warm welcome to Oakley School. We are the district Special School for children and young people from 3 to 19 years with a wide range of special educational needs located in our Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge (post-16) sites

Our Mission: Children and Young People at the heart of all we do.

Our Ethos: Work Hard, Be Kind, Have Fun & Stay Safe

Our Vision: To give all our children and young people opportunities to engage, explore, discover and develop their independence – to become confident, resilient, happy and well prepared for a positive and meaningful future.

At Oakley School we are ambitious for our pupils and offer a rich Creative Curriculum that is personalised and offers learning in school as well as in the community. Our skilled and dedicated staff team work very hard to make learning motivating, interactive, challenging and fun, whilst ensuring that all our children and young people feel safe, valued and self-confident. We promote “Skills for Life and Independence” so that when pupil leave Oakley School they are prepared for the next phase in their lives and have the best opportunities.

Pupils' wellbeing and engagement is central to all our decision making and how we structure our school and the interventions we use.

Our Wider Curriculum offers excellent enrichment activities including: lunch and after school clubs, curriculum trips and residential experiences in the United Kingdom and abroad. These opportunities provide pupils time and experiences to develop their life skills in new places and with different people in preparation for their next steps.

We work collaboratively across our school community with our Families, Therapists, NHS Colleagues and other professionals and external organisations to support and meet the needs of our pupils.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find the information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the school directly with any queries you may have. If you would like a paper copy of any of the information on our website, we would be happy to provide it, free of charge. Email office@oakley.kent.sch.uk

or call us on 01892 823096.

It is my privilege to be the Headteacher at Oakley School and we welcome you to visit the school so you can meet pupils and staff to experience our very special school.

  • Oakley wins GOLD!

    Thu 28 Sep 2017
This time last year we reported that we had been awarded silver in the Education category of Tunbridge Wells in Bloom.  This year we are thrilled to report that we won GOLD and joint overall WINNER with Herbilicious, who work closely with Oakley School and our students.  Our two specialist Forest Schools teachers, along with two representative students (pictured), went to the award ceremony yesterday, 27th September and very proudly collected our prize, which they then shared with all their peers in Celebration Assembly today.   We are so excited about winning that we have already started talking about how we can be even better next year!  Well done to everyone involved and thank you to Tunbridge Wells in Bloom for their support and encouragement.
  • Oakley's first Ski Trip

    Wed 20 Sep 2017

This year some of our Key Stage 4 pupils have been given the opportunity to attend a residential skiing trip in February 2018, staying in the resort of Pila in Italy.

Oakley have been fortunate enough to be invited to join Ifield School, who have successfully been going for a number of years. Ifield School is a district Special School, similar to Oakley based in Gravesend, Kent.

We believe this experience will provide our students with a fantastic social and practical learning opportunity as well as helping them develop core strength and balance.

As this is the pilot year for this trip we will be taking a smaller number of pupils, however we hope to open this up to more pupils next year.

If you require further information please contact Sally Maher (P.E Co-ordinator)

  • Oakley School does Dragon Boat Racing!

    Tue 12 Sep 2017
Saturday 9th September was the Dragon Boat Race at Bewl Water and with the support of the Rotary Club, Oakley School entered a team of 1980's movie characters to compete against 59 other teams and, mostly importantly, fundraise!  It was a beautiful sunny day, which meant that we could dry out in between races and when it did finally rain, we were already on our way home! Despite our best efforts, we didn't make the final but our best time was 1m 27s which we felt was perfectly respectable. It was a long day but we had a lot of fun and most importantly, hopefully raised a lot of money for Oakley School. Thank you to everyone who supported and sponsored us, thank you to the Rotary Club and to everyone (staff, governors and family members) who rowed on the day.
