Welcome to our School

Our children and young people are at the heart of everything we do.

A very warm welcome to Oakley School. We are the district Special School for children and young people from 3 to 19 years with a wide range of special educational needs located in our Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge (post-16) sites

Our Mission: Children and Young People at the heart of all we do.

Our Ethos: Work Hard, Be Kind, Have Fun & Stay Safe

Our Vision: To give all our children and young people opportunities to engage, explore, discover and develop their independence – to become confident, resilient, happy and well prepared for a positive and meaningful future.

At Oakley School we are ambitious for our pupils and offer a rich Creative Curriculum that is personalised and offers learning in school as well as in the community. Our skilled and dedicated staff team work very hard to make learning motivating, interactive, challenging and fun, whilst ensuring that all our children and young people feel safe, valued and self-confident. We promote “Skills for Life and Independence” so that when pupil leave Oakley School they are prepared for the next phase in their lives and have the best opportunities.

Pupils' wellbeing and engagement is central to all our decision making and how we structure our school and the interventions we use.

Our Wider Curriculum offers excellent enrichment activities including: lunch and after school clubs, curriculum trips and residential experiences in the United Kingdom and abroad. These opportunities provide pupils time and experiences to develop their life skills in new places and with different people in preparation for their next steps.

We work collaboratively across our school community with our Families, Therapists, NHS Colleagues and other professionals and external organisations to support and meet the needs of our pupils.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find the information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the school directly with any queries you may have. If you would like a paper copy of any of the information on our website, we would be happy to provide it, free of charge. Email office@oakley.kent.sch.uk

or call us on 01892 823096.

It is my privilege to be the Headteacher at Oakley School and we welcome you to visit the school so you can meet pupils and staff to experience our very special school.

  • Tunbridge Wells Fairtrade Mural

    Fri 31 Mar 2017

This week one of our Key Stage 4 classes joined six other local schools creating a Fairtrade mural at the Royal Victoria Centre in Tunbridge Wells. This was opened by the Mayor, himself a former Oakley member of staff, who was very impressed with the work that had been done and was anxious to catch up with news of the school.

We have received lots of positive comments about our students, here is one of them: “Just to add that it was a pleasure to meet you and your young students today. Please be sure to thank them for their hard work participating in the project, as well as their fine artwork!”

  • Red Nose Day at Oakley School

    Fri 24 Mar 2017
It's Red Nose Day at Oakley School.  As well as our red noses, we (students and staff) are all wearing red and/or spots as we raise as much money as we can for people at home and abroad who need our help and support.  Today we are really promoting our school moto "work hard, be kind, have fun.." and there is no better way to raise money than by having fun.  Our Skinners' Kent Primary School (SKPS) students are joining our students on the Tonbridge site and we have a packed timetable (on top of normal lessons) including quizzes, silly games, cake sales, face painting, a Talent Show and the grand finale - our 'favourite' members of staff (one on each site) being covered in baked beans or custard!!
  • Students enjoying new playground activities

    Wed 08 Mar 2017
The new playground markings at the Tunbridge Wells site are complete and students of all ages have already been enjoying them during morning break, despite the drizzly weather!
  • Our Tunbridge Wells playground is getting a make-over

    Mon 06 Mar 2017

Earlier in the year we reported that our Outdoor Learning Project had come first in the Tesco Bags of Help vote in our local Tesco stores and we were to receive a grant award of £12,000.00!

We have now received the first tranche of the grant and the work has started!  As you can see from the photographs the grant has allowed us to make our playground stimulating, colourful, interactive, fun and suitable for all ages and abilities.

The work will only take 2 days before the transformation is complete and our children and young people can enjoy the new activities and make the most of their break and lunch times.

On behalf of all the students and staff at Oakley School "THANK YOU" to Tesco and our local Tesco customers who voted for us, none of this would have been possible without your support.

  • World Book Day 2017

    Thu 02 Mar 2017
Oakley School students and staff love a reason to wear fancy dress, and what better reason than celebrating World Book Day! We have fully embraced it again this year. We have Super Heroes, Gangster Grannies, Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, the White Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts, a Thunderbird, Mary Poppins, Willy Wonker and so many more fantastic book characters.  The children have been searching for 'Where's Wally' characters, but apart from that we have all just been getting on with a normal school day, laughing and enjoying the fun of how great and different we all look.  Prizes for the best dressed will be awarded tomorrow in Celebration Assembly!
