Our children and young people are at the heart of everything we do.
A very warm welcome to Oakley School. We are the district Special School for children and young people from 3 to 19 years with a wide range of special educational needs located in our Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge (post-16) sites
Our Mission: Children and Young People at the heart of all we do.
Our Ethos: Work Hard, Be Kind, Have Fun & Stay Safe
Our Vision: To give all our children and young people opportunities to engage, explore, discover and develop their independence – to become confident, resilient, happy and well prepared for a positive and meaningful future.
At Oakley School we are ambitious for our pupils and offer a rich Creative Curriculum that is personalised and offers learning in school as well as in the community. Our skilled and dedicated staff team work very hard to make learning motivating, interactive, challenging and fun, whilst ensuring that all our children and young people feel safe, valued and self-confident. We promote “Skills for Life and Independence” so that when pupil leave Oakley School they are prepared for the next phase in their lives and have the best opportunities.
Pupils' wellbeing and engagement is central to all our decision making and how we structure our school and the interventions we use.
Our Wider Curriculum offers excellent enrichment activities including: lunch and after school clubs, curriculum trips and residential experiences in the United Kingdom and abroad. These opportunities provide pupils time and experiences to develop their life skills in new places and with different people in preparation for their next steps.
We work collaboratively across our school community with our Families, Therapists, NHS Colleagues and other professionals and external organisations to support and meet the needs of our pupils.

Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
This term has been all about the birds during our Phase 2 Forest School sessions. Chestnut, Cherry & Maple classes made alternative bird feeders by pushing cheese, apple, raisins and cheerios onto wire hoops. The birds loved those; they didn't last long! Ash and Willow Classes made and painted bird boxes to replace the old ones in the woods. It was hard work banging in the nails but they did a great job and some of the children have taken responsibility for remembering to fill up our bird feeders with seed. Finally, we joined the RSPB Big School's Bird Watch - opening up the hide and trying to stay as quiet as possible while we identified the birds that we could see and hear.
Last Friday, 3rd December we invited all pupils and staff to wear brown or green (or their own clothes) for a donation of £1 to fund the planting of trees at our School, in honour of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee (70 years as our Queen). We are delighted to share that we raised £116.47 and we have also had a very generous donation from a family of £100, giving us a grand total of £216.47, which is wonderful! Thank you to our whole school community for their support - we look forward to sharing photos of the trees in the New Year and our pupils enjoying them.
Oakley School is very proud to be a Special School partner in the West Kent Independent State School Partnership (WKISSP) and welcomes Louisa Priestley as the first dedicated partnership co-ordinator. We are particularly looking forward to working with our partners next year and creating more opportunities for our children and young people.
A big Oakley THANK YOU you to Corkers for donating 3 tons of topsoil to help fill our new raised beds in the Phase 2 garden. Kestrels, Eagles and Hawks have been busy moving the soil from the car park to the garden area and we hope to have another delivery soon so that we can finish the job. We're looking forward to growing some lovely vegetables next year! @corkeruk
Last Friday, we all wore our pyjamas or brightly coloured own clothes to raise money for Children in Need and Demelza House. We had lots of fun activities throughout the day and raised £646.85 which is significantly more than last year and probably one of the highest amounts we have ever raised. Thank you to everyone who helped co-ordinate the day, especially the School Council and thank you to everyone who supported us.
Chestnut, Cherry and Maple classes used mud paint (compost, powder paint, water and washing up liquid) and rosemary sprig brushes as well as ordinary brushes to create fun pictures in celebration of International Forest School Day. The pictures have an unusual texture and the children had great fun making them together.
Thank you Tunbridge Wells in Bloom for our award and well done to everyone involved - pupils and staff, what a fantastic achievement! Our prize included a £20 voucher to spend on horticulture resources and a big bag of daffodil bulbs - we look forward to seeing them blossom around our school in the Spring.
Last Friday, everyone at Oakley wore their jeans and own clothes to raise money for Jeans for Genes. Together we raised £150! One in 25 children in the UK is affected by a genetic disorder so a big thank you to our whole school community for supporting this worthwhile cause.
Pupils in Kingfisher Class have sanded down the old benches at the back of the MUGA and painted them with waterproof paint to make a lovely area for Phase 3 to sit. Great job Kingfisher Class!
We are delighted to share that following our recent Green Flag application, Oakley School has passed and achieved the Eco-Schools Green Flag!
Our pupils and staff were congratulated for continuing to work on the Eco-Schools Green Flag during such unprecedented times - "it is a true reflection of your schools determination to make a real difference". Well done to everyone involved and in particular, to our Eco-Committee.
