Welcome to our School

Our children and young people are at the heart of everything we do.

A very warm welcome to Oakley School. We are the district Special School for children and young people from 3 to 19 years with a wide range of special educational needs located in our Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge (post-16) sites

Our Mission: Children and Young People at the heart of all we do.

Our Ethos: Work Hard, Be Kind, Have Fun & Stay Safe

Our Vision: To give all our children and young people opportunities to engage, explore, discover and develop their independence – to become confident, resilient, happy and well prepared for a positive and meaningful future.

At Oakley School we are ambitious for our pupils and offer a rich Creative Curriculum that is personalised and offers learning in school as well as in the community. Our skilled and dedicated staff team work very hard to make learning motivating, interactive, challenging and fun, whilst ensuring that all our children and young people feel safe, valued and self-confident. We promote “Skills for Life and Independence” so that when pupil leave Oakley School they are prepared for the next phase in their lives and have the best opportunities.

Pupils' wellbeing and engagement is central to all our decision making and how we structure our school and the interventions we use.

Our Wider Curriculum offers excellent enrichment activities including: lunch and after school clubs, curriculum trips and residential experiences in the United Kingdom and abroad. These opportunities provide pupils time and experiences to develop their life skills in new places and with different people in preparation for their next steps.

We work collaboratively across our school community with our Families, Therapists, NHS Colleagues and other professionals and external organisations to support and meet the needs of our pupils.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find the information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the school directly with any queries you may have. If you would like a paper copy of any of the information on our website, we would be happy to provide it, free of charge. Email office@oakley.kent.sch.uk

It is my privilege to be the Headteacher at Oakley School and we welcome you to visit the school so you can meet pupils and staff to experience our very special school.

  • Oakley Earth Hour

    Fri 16 Oct 2020
Our new Eco Committee is up and running and the pupils are inviting everyone to join them with their Energy topic challenge - challenging everyone to switch off their electricity and all their gadgets for one hour!  Our pupils chose this topic because they want to support the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in taking care of the Earth which is good for the animals, and this is one way we can help to protect them.  If everyone turns off their lights regularly for just a few minutes, it will add up and help save our planet!
  • Oakley Students Celebrate their Success

    Thu 20 Aug 2020

Congratulations to our Year 11, 12 and 13's who received their accreditation results today.  Despite the unusual circumstances and the uncertainty of the past few months, it is important to recognise their achievements and hard work during their time at Oakley School.

Four of our Phase 4 students achieved GCSE Art & Design.  For the first time some of our Year 11's and 12's successfully completed BTEC Level 2 Home Cooking Skills.  We also have successes in Functional Skills English and Maths, BTEC Art & Design, Land Based Studies and Life & Living Skills.

We would like to say a big "Thank you" to parents and carers for their continued support.  We hope our students feel proud of their achievements, as we are so proud of them.

  • Oakley Pupils Recycling helps Local Charity

    Tue 21 Jul 2020

BREAKING NEWS! After almost a year and a half of collecting crisp packets, Oakley School has finally donated the collection to Karen McCully of Kentbabymatters.org

Sue Hobbs, who leads our ECO committee "is incredibly proud of our School Community who have saved so much rubbish from the landfill, helped an important local charity and contributed towards our ECO schools Green Flag renewal project.”

Karen McCully of Kentbabymatters.org said "A huge thank you" to all the pupils who have worked so hard to collect all these plastics which can now be recycled to raise much needed funds for PS Breastfeeding CIC.

Well done and thank you everyone!

  • The new Warburtons’ School Visitor Van is decorated by Oakley pupils

    Mon 22 Jun 2020
The new Warburtons’ School Visitor Van has arrived AND it’s decorated with drawings from Oakley School and Oakley College – don’t they look amazing! Our pupils were asked to enter a picture into their competition and these winners were picked by the driving team at the local depot, so very well done as there were quite a few entries. The van does exactly what it says and takes the Warburtons‘ Team all over the area to schools who would benefit from a workshop on healthy eating. Warburtons have put on several of these for Oakley and we’ve got more plans in the pipeline. Thank you Warburtons!
  • TWBC Support Oakley Pupils with their Travel Training

    Thu 11 Jun 2020
Way back in September (seems a lifetime ago now), we wrote to Tunbridge Wells Borough Council (TWBC) to ask if they could improve the bus stop just outside the gates of the Tunbridge Wells site – thinking, in particular, about our pupils standing on a busy main road, in the rain, waiting for a bus, as part of their travel training and ‘skills for life and independence’. We didn't hear anything back and then yesterday, completely out of the blue, a bus shelter was installed! We did ask for a bench too, for our less mobile pupils, so have our fingers crossed that one might follow! Thank you @TWellsCouncil

  • Oakley Pupils' Art Work on display in Pembury Hospital

    Tue 12 May 2020

Oakley School was asked to support the Wingham Project – a project whereby grounded flight crews show the NHS frontline workers their support. They have set up an area in Pembury hospital’s canteen where NHS staff can go and relax during their shift. They are providing them with snacks and drinks but most of all a shoulder to cry on and a pair of ears to listen.

We were asked if any of our pupils would like to paint a picture of a rainbow to display them all around the canteen to brighten the place up and cheer the wonderful front line staff on!

Those pupils who were in week commencing 27th April did just that and attached is a photo of some of the art work on display, sent with thanks for our contribution. BBC news were filming this today so the children’s art work might even be on the TV this week!
