Our children and young people are at the heart of everything we do.
A very warm welcome to Oakley School. We are the district Special School for children and young people from 3 to 19 years with a wide range of special educational needs located in our Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge (post-16) sites
Our Mission: Children and Young People at the heart of all we do.
Our Ethos: Work Hard, Be Kind, Have Fun & Stay Safe
Our Vision: To give all our children and young people opportunities to engage, explore, discover and develop their independence – to become confident, resilient, happy and well prepared for a positive and meaningful future.
At Oakley School we are ambitious for our pupils and offer a rich Creative Curriculum that is personalised and offers learning in school as well as in the community. Our skilled and dedicated staff team work very hard to make learning motivating, interactive, challenging and fun, whilst ensuring that all our children and young people feel safe, valued and self-confident. We promote “Skills for Life and Independence” so that when pupil leave Oakley School they are prepared for the next phase in their lives and have the best opportunities.
Pupils' wellbeing and engagement is central to all our decision making and how we structure our school and the interventions we use.
Our Wider Curriculum offers excellent enrichment activities including: lunch and after school clubs, curriculum trips and residential experiences in the United Kingdom and abroad. These opportunities provide pupils time and experiences to develop their life skills in new places and with different people in preparation for their next steps.
We work collaboratively across our school community with our Families, Therapists, NHS Colleagues and other professionals and external organisations to support and meet the needs of our pupils.

Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We are proud to announce that we have received a Bronze Certificate in the Kent Wildlife Trust Wilder Kent Awards 2022.
This is a new award to us and our first year of entering.
The judges particularly mentioned:
We hope to take part in this again later this year.
Every Phase 2 and 3 class has been pond dipping in Forest School this week and we have found some very exciting bugs.
Dragonflies and dragonfly nymphs, pond skaters and pond snails, newts and water boatmen, water fleas and blood worms.
It's been so interesting checking out the trays with magnifying glasses to identify everything and very exciting that we have such an amazing habitat in our grounds!
What a wonderful Summer Fair! Our Fair was opened by the Deputy Mayor of Tunbridge Wells and his wife and we were also joined by a very special royal visitor! It was lovely to see our school community together again enjoying the sunshine, music, dancing, pony rides, bouncy castle, ice creams - AMAZING! A huge Oakley THANK YOU to our PTA for all their hard work, to all our fantastic staff who came and supported and to all the local businesses and community organisations who supported on the day, made donations and gave us discounts - we couldn't have done it without you all. UPDATE - we raised £3,600 which is A-MAZ-ING!
This morning we were visited by the Tunbridge Wells in Bloom judges. Our pupils showed them around our grounds and talked to the judges, they were welcoming, friendly and so enthusiastic. The children knew the names of the vegetables and herbs in the garden and ad libbed by saying how amazing they thought everything looked! We were immensely proud of each and every one of them.
A huge THANK YOU to our Forest School Teacher for all her hard work and to all our Learning Support Assistants who have supported this year - we wouldn't have managed such a great looking garden without their contribution.
Now we just wait for the results which will be announced in September - fingers crossed!
On Saturday, 25th June Kingfisher Class entered a kart in the Tunbridge Wells Soapbox Race at Dunorlan Park.
Having helped design and build the kart at Kent College (one of our ISSP partners), they also decorated it in preparation for the race.
Cheered on by lots of Oakley staff and family members, they did amazingly well - winning 3rd place and a trophy for the best looking kart! We even got a mention in the local press!
Super proud of the whole team who represented Oakley School and ISSP so passionately and enthusiastically.
Although we have been eating carrots fresh from the soil all term, today Hawks class had the pleasure of harvesting our first potatoes. They were out of the ground, washed cooked and eaten in 40 minutes with no food miles and just a little bit of butter. The carrots we ate raw and were really happy with the size of some of them. Some classes have also been trying peas straight from the pod and we spotted our first courgette this morning. It's a very exciting time right now in the Oakley vegetable garden!!
Lots has been happening in our garden areas over half term, we have potatoes, peas and courgettes beginning to flower, the onions, shallots and garlic are continuing to grow and the beetroot is looking good. Sweetcorn and pumpkin plants have been added and some strange contraptions to try and prevent the rabbits and birds from getting to the plants. The strawberry plants are getting ready to fruit and we are hoping to have some crops ready before the end of term.
Our pupils have had a wonderful last day of term, learning all about and celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, with the whole school decorated in and wearing Red, White and Blue!
Today is Earth Day and the theme this year is Invest in Our Planet. To celebrate and do our part for the planet this week pupils have been working in the garden clearing weeds and preparing beds for planting. Some pupils have been clearing nettles and working to get our compost bins ready to use again. Others have been watering the 22 trees and saplings that we planted last term in celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Such a great way to support our School and the earth!
Our wonderful volunteers from the Kent High Weald Partnership have been back in school today, cutting back the brambles on our Tunbridge Wells site. They are planning to clear as much as they can, then drop some seed bombs and cover them over in the hope they grow. They are also clearing around the pond. A lot of hard work in the current sunshine. Thank you so much to everyone involved.
